Well, it looks like Nick and Amy's star is still on the rise. Questlove of The Roots invited them to a show at Tufts University. Little did they know he would invite them on stage to perform! Hey kids if you keep up the good work, BOOMIXSYSTEM blog will continue to show our support.
They say, “Great men are not born great, they grow great”. But it’s not the case when it comes to Apollo The Great. Born & raised in Camden, New Jerz, Apollo reps East Coast Hip-Hop to tha fullest, being the definition of an emcee. He never rests on his laurels cuz just like his talent his goals are out of this world. When them other artists are chasing temporary “success”, Apollo is on his way to being legendary.
Having grown up listening to the best of the best in the rap game, Apollo The Great has deep understanding of what Hip-Hop is. Every time this cat grabs the mic he brings the 90’s back. Mad flow that is capable of adjusting to any kind of beat combined w/ the hottest bars full of substance turns his music into true heaven for your ears. Mad talent w/ deep philosophy behind it… who could ask for more? Apollo never compromises his beliefs & no matter what, he always stays true to the culture & music. Hip-Hop soldier w/ capo’s mentality, Apollo The Great is always at war w/ ringtone rap & fake artists.
“I am a product of Hip Hop and that’s what I’m about. I love the language of hip-hop and crafting lyrics to a song, it’s a beautiful art form in my opinion. Long Live Hip-Hop,” words from Apollo The Great.

This is an audio recording of Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West and Mos Def freestyling at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York. The band accompanying the MC’s was The Robert Glasper Experiment out of Houston, Texas. Its moments like these that I love about hip hop. Though Kanye conveyed a tremendous amount of emotion and apparent reality in his verses Mos Def completely smashes the field. I prefer my "true" freestyles to have a consistent flow and to have competent and coherent meaning. All three performances were hot. However, Lupe needs to step his freestyle game up. Check them out and let me know what you think. BOOMIXSYSTEM ENDORSES THIS FIRE! Tweet
As far as the limited vision of the Black perspective goes, hip hop has definitely made white people a whole lot cooler (ya know... in terms of the greater hope of achieving Dr. King's dream,.. of course). I've been saying this for years and this clip more than proves my point.
Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan are professionally known as Karmin. They met at Berklee College Of Music in Boston. In this video they cover "6 Foot 7" by Lil Wayne feat. Cory Guns. What they have achieved here is nothing short of excellent. The good folks over at Young Money Records should be very impressed.
As evidenced by the previous post, I enjoy rap covers. I especially love this one becuase Amy's actually rapping her "Heide" off. She does it with so much cutsey girl swag and without changing the slang phonetics of the original; less the "N" to "J" switch which is obvious and greatly appreciated. Nick's accompaniment gives a warm heartfelt beauty to the vibe that is refreshing and completely opposite of the Bangladesh produced original song that is off the meter.
Two weeks ago they posted a video of them covering Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now". Since posting it on Apr 12 it has received 6,424,000 views! Check them out right here right now. One more thing... "BLACK AND WHITE DIAMONDS FORGET SEGREGATION" - LIL WAYNE. Tweet
